Baseball and poetry are an unlikely duo … but not for eighth-grader Kevin Boland. Actually, main character Kevin might be any girl’s dream. He’s a jock with a sensitive side, a stellar first baseman who’s also good with a pen. Problem is, the one thing Kevin doesn’t seem to be good at is dealing with girls. Like his girlfriend, the popular Mira, who’s cute … but a little shallow. And then there’s fellow poet Amy, who wants to be “just friends.” Which is all Kevin wants because he’s got Mira … right? Thankfully, Kevin has his poetry—and his trusty, not-so-secret diary—to help him figure it all out.
