Looking for Alaska
Author: John Green
Year: 2005
Looking for Alaska doesn’t have many goody-two-shoes characters. Or really any normal characters, either. Miles, Chip, and Alaska aren’t weirdos. They’re just quirky. They’re not bad kids. But they do spend most of their time at Culver Creek Boarding School testing the limits—the limits of rules, of knowledge, of friendship. Even the limits of life … though that doesn’t work out so well in the end. The good news is that Looking for Alaska is as much about what Miles, Chip, and Alaska learn from their rule-breaking as it is about the rule-breaking itself. It’s also as much about your journey as the reader as it is about theirs.
Jenny’s rating (out of 5 stars): 3 You’ll like this book if: You like quirky characters, practical jokes, and more-than-slightly-angsty coming-of-age stories. You won’t like this book if: You have a hard time with death or don’t enjoy semi-narcissistic characters.
