Let’s get real: Is there really any part of Homer’s Odyssey that teenagers today can relate to? Well, if you’re interested in fashion, food, sports, or even horror movies, Homer’s poem has more than a little something to offer you. Jenny’s got the scoop when you press play.

Video Transcription:

Back in the day, hearing the Odyssey would have been considered seriously entertaining.

So … why is this poem still so epic?

Maybe because no matter what era you live in, and no matter what you like to do, the Odyssey probably has you covered. Let’s take a look.

I like fashion.

Check out Book 15. Helen’s designed some rockin’ robes—and they are definitely not so last season.

If it’s not about sports, I’m not interested.

In that case, it’s Book 21 for you. Odysseus’ strength will PUMP YOU UP.

My friends say I’m a food snob, but let’s face it, I’m a foodie.

Then it’s pork belly and wine for you—or rather, for Odysseus. Check out his feast with Eumaios in Book 14.

I’ve seen every Saw movie ever made. At least ten times.

If you’re all about the blood and guts, then you’ll enjoy watching as the Cyclops feasts on Odysseus’ companions in Book 9. Yum.

I’m like OBSESSED with all the free stuff stars get. O.M.G., hold on! Incoming tweet about the celebrity swag at this year’s Oscars.

Books 4 and 13 are the ones for you. Those Greeks gave away some good stuff!

Maybe that’s what makes the Odyssey endure. Whatever your interest, it’s got something to hook you—and keep you reading.
