If you’re having a hard time remembering John Steinbeck’s main point—that East of Eden is about the struggle between good and evil—look no farther than this Recap. Jenny’s got the sssssssscoop on Ssssssssssteinbeck, courtesy an infamous snake, a forbidden apple, and an overly-curious character named Eve.

Video Transcription:

Hey there, sssssssssweetheart.

Hello? Is someone there?

Over here. In thissssssss tree. The one with the tasssssssty looking apples.

Oh. There you are. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you before. What kind of creature are you?

Stop that, you tease. Adam will hear me laughing and he’ll come running.

Sssssssssorry. Sssssssay, while I’ve got you here, don’t you want to try one of these delicious pieces of fruit?

Oh dear. I don’t think so. Those look like they’re all sugar and carbs. Adam says I’m not supposed to have sugar and carbs.

A few carbsss won’t hurt you. Bessssides, I think you’re beautiful.

Aren’t you the flirt? Now don’t tempt me. Besides, those things—What did you call them? Apples?—yeah, they don’t look organic to me. I only do organic.

Um, Eve?

Up here. Yeah. Jehovah in the house. Eve, we’ve got a problem. I’m on the line with a guy named Steinbeck. He’s telling me you need to eat the apple. Something about some manuscript he’s working on. The contest between good and evil. Bad choices. Anyway, Eve, forget the carbs and just eat the apple, OK? The human race won’t thank you, but Steinbeck will.
